How i got rid of my rear axle clicking noise

hey everyone i just wanted to share how i got rid of this problem to the people that might have this same rear axle clicking noise

i found a good DIY on my350z.com... infiniti does have a the TSB for this problem..

i replace both right side and left side axle bolts/nuts/washers and 2 cotter pins

this is a picture before i cleaned the axle all rusted and dry

this is a picture of the axle cleaned and ready to apply the new grease i used this "MAG1 EXTREME PRESSURE MOLY GREASE SUPER LITHIUM" that i got from pepboys it cost me about $5 for the whole tube

if your going to repair both sides like i did your going to have to do one side at a time

How hard was it for you to press the splined part of the axles out of the hubs?

well the passenger side was very easy it came right out on its own but the driver side was a bit harder to take out i had to use a little piece of wood i had and put it in the center of the axle and used a rubber mallet and hit it really hard a few times then it got loose

It's really simple. Probably the hardest part is taking the axle nut off. It's torqued to 177 lb/ft. Have a sturdy breaker bar for it and a 32mm socket.

Have the right tools for the nut. I was just concerned about pushing it through the hub easily.

Like many, I have this rear clicking noise as well. Been letting it slide for the last couple of years. What are the consequences of not fixing it? Something is gonna fall apart?

It wasn't difficult at all for me. The biggest pain was maneuvering the axel itself around the swaybar endlinks. I'll definitely remove them first if I do it again. Haven't done it on the front so that may not be an issue up there.

I'm not really handy when it comes to this kind of work I called Infiniti dealer and they said $180......should I go there or just a normal garage considering it might be cheaper

yeah i had to use a beefy breaker bar with a pipe over it to get the both axle bolts loose

if the axle is stuck you can always try wd-40 spray it and let it sit for a few minutes then try beating it out

is that price for both axles of just one? cause that sounds cheap for both axle from a dealer... but i would still go get it checked out at a good local repair shop near you look threw Google or yelp and see what pops up near you also you might want to print out the TSB from infiniti and take it with you when you go to a local shop

Brass hammer may work if you don't have a rubber mallet handy...
